Life-size active safety, where your people are.
Aegis is a free-standing portrait totem with a built-in camera, designed to live at the entrance of a controlled area. When someone steps in front of it, Aegis acts as a Smart Mirror: their PPE is recognised on the spot and the totem tells them, in plain English, whether they are good to go or what is missing.
When no one is around, Aegis does not go dark. The same totem cycles through a live compliance dashboard, branded digital signage, and (optionally) a Kit-Up training game, so the screen earns its place 24/7.
It is the same SAiFI vision AI that powers Edge, packaged into a totem with its own camera, screen and on-device analytics. Plug in power and a network, set your PPE rules, and Aegis runs. Offline-capable, privacy-first, EU AI Act human-oversight ready.

In action
DemoThis is a demo recording. On the left is the technician config dashboard, where rules are set and the session log lives. On the right is a captured Smart Mirror feed showing what someone sees on the totem itself. The two are not normally shown together; we have placed them side-by-side so you can see exactly what the totem records while it is doing the work.
Demo composite. The technician dashboard (left) and a Smart Mirror capture (right) are recorded together for illustration. In a real deployment the totem shows the mirror full-screen to the workforce; the dashboard runs separately on the technician’s laptop or phone.
Backend (left)
Technician config dashboard: PPE rules, schedules, signage, and the full session log with filters and export.
Smart Mirror (right)
What the workforce sees on the totem itself. Live PPE feedback, ALL CLEAR / ACTION REQUIRED banner, missing-items list.
One device
Both views come from the same Aegis. Schedule-driven, offline-capable, syncs to your cloud dashboard when online.
How it works
Aegis runs five steps continuously, on-device, in real time. The result is a workforce-facing experience that improves compliance behaviour without slowing operations down.
The on-board camera detects people and PPE classes (hi-vis, hardhat, gloves, glasses and more) frame by frame.
Each detection is matched against the PPE rule for that area, including minimum counts (for example two gloves) and "worn correctly" checks.
When a person is in front of the totem, the screen flips to Smart Mirror mode and shows live status: ALL CLEAR, ACTION REQUIRED, or SCANNING.
When idle, the totem cycles through compliance metrics, signage slides, and (optionally) a Kit-Up training game.
Every session is logged with timestamp, status, remediation and PPE-at-close, ready for audit and synced to the cloud when online.
Smart Mirror
When the camera spots a person in the trigger zone, the totem flips into Smart Mirror mode and shows the live feed with bounding boxes, a per-person status badge and a banner. PPE present is not the same as PPE compliant: Aegis checks each item is worn correctly.

No PPE detected. The banner turns red and lists every missing item in plain English.

Hardhat and gloves recognised. Banner stays red until everything is in place.

Hardhat is in hand, not on the head. Aegis still flags it. PPE present is not the same as PPE compliant.

Hardhat, vest, both gloves. Banner turns green. The session is logged with the PPE state at close.
Modes
Aegis earns its place all day. The same hardware switches between five modes, on a schedule or on demand, so the screen is never wasted.

Mode
A live scoreboard for your PPE programme.
A full-screen portrait dashboard showing the area’s live compliance percentage, target, breakdowns per PPE class, a 24-hour trend chart, days-without-incident counter, and a notice ticker for site messages.
When it shines: Always-on visibility for the team and visitors.

Mode
Step up. See yourself. Get it right.
When the camera spots a person, the totem flips into Smart Mirror mode. The live feed is shown with bounding boxes around detected PPE, a per-person status badge, and a top banner that reads ALL CLEAR (green) or ACTION REQUIRED with the missing items spelled out.
When it shines: When someone is at the totem and decisions need to be instant.

Mode
Toolbox talks, every shift, on every screen.
When idle, Aegis becomes a branded digital noticeboard. Three template layouts (fullscreen, split, bulletin) cycle with image, title, body, and a brand strip. Each slide can be timed, and the rotation is configurable site-wide.
When it shines: Hand-overs, induction zones, breakroom screens, gate-in queues.

Mode
The totem decides what to show.
Auto mode is the default for unattended deployments. The totem watches for people: if someone is in the trigger zone it switches to Smart Mirror; if no one is around for X seconds it shows the compliance dashboard; after Y seconds of dashboard it runs one full signage cycle, then loops.
When it shines: Where the totem stands all day, every day.

Mode
Make safety training the highlight of the shift.
An optional interactive game that runs during quiet periods or for demo days and inductions. A short memory phase shows the kit required, then players have to put it on; the camera scores them, with a leaderboard for the team.
When it shines: Inductions, toolbox talks, safety stand-downs.
Schedules
Aegis modes are schedule-driven. The same totem can lead handover with signage, score the shift on the compliance dashboard, sit in Smart Mirror at gate-in, and run a Kit-Up game during induction — all without anyone touching it.
| Time | Mode | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| 06:30 — 07:00 | Signage | Toolbox talk and rotating safety messages for arriving shift. |
| 07:00 — 09:00 | Auto | Smart Mirror at the gate, compliance dashboard when idle. |
| 09:00 — 12:00 | Compliance | Live scoreboard visible across the floor. |
| 12:00 — 13:00 | Signage | Lunchtime safety bulletin reel. |
| 13:00 — 16:30 | Auto | Mirror + dashboard cycling. |
| Inductions | Game | Kit-Up training game for new starters and visitors. |
Schedules run locally. The totem switches itself, even if the network is down, and logs the reason for every transition.
Configurable
Aegis is dynamic and rule-based, just like Edge. Behaviour is defined in configuration, not code, so the same hardware adapts to manufacturing, warehouse, pharma, construction or transit without bespoke development.
Map each detected class to compliant or non-compliant outcomes, with optional minimum counts (eg. two gloves), worn-correctly checks, and labels in plain English.
Draw the area in front of the totem that should activate Smart Mirror. People outside the zone are ignored, no false triggers from passers-by.
Change mode mix by time of day, day of week, or shift pattern. The totem switches itself and logs the reason.
Site logo, brand colour, message of the week, days-without-incident, and notices, all editable from the technician dashboard.
Session log with timestamp, status, remediated yes/no, PPE at close, and the issues column ("Missing: Safety Vest"), filterable and exportable.
Aegis ships with the SAIFI Edge Agent for AWS IoT Core. Push config, deploy updates, and pull telemetry across a fleet, securely and offline-tolerant.
Use cases
Anywhere PPE matters and people pass through. Aegis fits manufacturing entry points, warehouse pedestrian routes, construction inductions, pharma gowning, logistics yards and mass transit staff areas, with the same hardware and a different rule set.
A totem at a factory entrance or production zone confirms helmets, hi-vis, glasses and gloves as people walk in, and runs as a compliance scoreboard the rest of the time.
Pedestrians passing into a vehicle area see immediate Smart Mirror feedback on their hi-vis and hardhat status, before they ever reach the floor.
A site-entrance Aegis confirms induction-area PPE and runs a Kit-Up game during induction windows to reinforce the right kit per area.
In gowning ante-rooms, Aegis verifies the right gowning kit before a person enters the controlled area, with each pass logged for audit.
A totem at a yard pedestrian crossing reinforces hi-vis compliance for drivers and pedestrians sharing space, with signage cycling between visits.
In platform-side staff routes and depot accesses, Aegis verifies hi-vis and equipment compliance at handover points and runs branded signage in between.
Privacy & oversight
Aegis is designed for a public-facing role on the workplace floor, so privacy is treated as a first-class design constraint, not a setting.
Aegis detects PPE classes (hardhat, hi-vis, glasses, gloves and similar) and the presence of a person. It does not identify individuals.
Frames are analysed in memory and discarded. There is no rolling CCTV-style video archive on the device.
EU AI Act compliance cadence is built into the totem, with prompts, one-tap entry, and a tamper-evident audit log.
Logs are kept on-device by default, retention is configurable, and you choose what is shared back to your central dashboard.

FAQ
SAiFI Aegis is a free-standing, portrait safety totem with a built-in camera. When someone steps in front of it, the totem acts as a Smart Mirror: their PPE is recognised in real time and the screen tells them whether they are good to go or what is missing. Between people, the same totem cycles through a live compliance dashboard, branded digital signage, and an optional Kit-Up training game.
A kiosk implies a wall-mounted touchscreen for inputs. Aegis is a free-standing portrait totem with a camera, designed to be looked at, not tapped. The interaction is your PPE, not your fingers. It also runs five distinct display modes, including signage, so the screen earns its place 24/7.
SAiFI Edge is the active safety engine that drives physical interventions like gates, barriers, projected warnings and alerts. SAiFI Aegis is a workforce-facing totem focused on PPE compliance, team engagement and audit evidence. Both share the same vision AI engine, the same event log, and the same edge agent for cloud sync.
Five: Compliance dashboard (live score and trend), Smart Mirror (live PPE feedback), Signage (rotating branded slides with three template layouts), Auto (cycles intelligently based on whether a person is in front), and Game (optional Kit-Up training, off by default).
Aegis detects PPE classes such as hardhats, hi-vis vests, safety glasses, gloves and similar items, and the presence of a person. It checks not only that the items are present but that they are worn correctly (for example a hardhat held in the hand still flags as missing).
Yes. Each Aegis is configured with the PPE rule for its location, including minimum counts (for example two gloves per person) and worn-correctly checks. Rules can be updated remotely on online systems, or via an engineer visit on offline systems.
No. Aegis processes frames in memory and discards them. There is no continuous video archive on the device. Every detection is stored as a timestamped event with the PPE state at close, not as footage. A session log is available for audit, filterable and exportable.
Yes. Detection, mode switching, schedules, signage, and event logging all run on the device. When connectivity is available, sessions, compliance trends and configuration sync to your central dashboard. If the network drops, the totem keeps running and resyncs once it is restored.
Each totem can be set to switch modes on a time-based schedule. A typical day might run signage at handover, the compliance dashboard during the shift, Smart Mirror at gate-in, and the Kit-Up game during inductions. Manual overrides are supported and logged.
Aegis is built around the human-oversight requirements of the EU AI Act for high-risk AI systems. It includes a built-in compliance cadence with prompts, one-tap entry forms, and a tamper-evident audit log. Combined with no facial identification and no continuous video retention, Aegis is designed to be deployed publicly under UK GDPR.
